SALON Lucienne | re: Adv

6 Linden is renowned as the Sunday evening gathering place for both Harvard undergrads and others noteworthy in the world of vanguard arts and letters around campus.

(Salon is a gathering of people under the roof of an inspiring host, held partly to amuse one another and partly to refine the taste and increase the knowledge of the participants through conversation.)

These gatherings often consciously followed Horace's definition of the aims of poetry, either to please or to educate – in Latin: aut delectare aut prodesse.

The word Salon also refers to art exhibitions, in this case, the chief konservator- salonnière is E. Lucienne. Entrée into the Lucienne Salon is a sought-after validation, and Lucienne became mentor, critic, and guru to those who gathered around her.

“Entrez-vous” Lucienne would surely reply, showing the caller the way through the atelier to the salon – most anyone is welcome: one’s connections were merely a formality.
